Trip - (Part 4) Arriving at the Kingdom

I don't have a lot of photos to show for the first night. We went, we saw, and we were still confused about being in Florida. If anything, it was the first night that is the hardest to remember.

From the food court we headed to the bus area of the Pop Century. As a frequenter of Disneyland, I was expecting the same chaos that happens with their trams. You get to the tram area and you have to stand in a long line. To top it off, you'll stand in line forever and have to wait for another tram because the current tram is full. Luckily, that NEVER happened for our entire stay. We would walk up to maybe a small group of people waiting, get on the first bus, and then head off. If a bus wasn't there, we never had to wait for more than 4 minutes for one to arrive.

The first bus we caught was just getting ready to leave, so we were instantly off to the Magic Kingdom. The layout of the entire Disney World Resort is HUGE. It was a 7 mile drive from the Pop Century to the Magic Kingdom (about 35 minutes on the roads).

Another thing that we needed to get used to was that along with the miles and miles separating each theme park, all of the land was covered with huge trees and swampland. There was also nothing else in sight. No glimpses of the other parks, no gas stations, nothing. You might spot other resorts, but for the most part, you're looking at the land. It's nice that you don't get glimpses of the parks - it makes it more of a surprise when you arrive.

When our bus was unloaded at the front of the Magic Kingdom one striking difference was immediately apparent. Directly facing The Magic Kingdom is a lake (almost like a little harbor). If you've been to Disneyland, it's where California Adventure now is (or where the parking lots used to be directly in front of the park). It was amazing to look up at the Main Street Train Station and then turn around to look out into the waters. Very well designed.

Ana and I went into the park and I asked her to do one thing with me. "Let's look at our feet, and not look up. We'll walk to the very top of the Main Street Station, and face the castle. Then, at the same time, we'll finally look up and open our eyes." I got a weird look, but she did it. We made our way through a bunch of people, hugging the left wall, and staring down at our feet. Now that I think of it, we probably looked very strange.

We made our way to the very top when I asked her, "Ok, are you ready?" On the count of 3 we opened our eyes. I leaned over and said, "we're finally here." It was an emotional and teary moment - not only one of the best moments of the trip, but perhaps one of the best ways to arrive into the park.
